Ben Nevis Macmillan Challenge

Ben Nevis Macmillan Challenge

Congratulations to the Travelodge and

Wakemans for raising £65,000 in aid

of Macmillan Cancer Support.

On the 27th June 2013, Wakemans joined forces with the Travelodge Property & IT team and succeeded in opening a Travelodge bedroom at the summit of Ben Nevis, Britain’s tallest mountain, in support of Macmillan Cancer support.

It took over 7 hours for 36 members of the team to walk the tough and challenging 1342m (4406ft) to the top of Ben Nevis and back again, whilst carrying components of a Travelodge bedroom (although not with a bathroom pod!). The various elements of the Travelodge bedroom were broken down into sizeable pieces to carry up and down the mountain including wall backdrops, carpet, mattress, bed, pillows, duvet and the chair.  It took a further hour for the bedroom to be constructed and dismantled at the summit in freezing and icy weather conditions.

It was particularly arduous and challenging task which took its toll on even the fittest members of the team but all participants made it back to base camp.  Moneys raised so far amount to £65,000 in support of Macmillan the UK’s leading cancer care charity which improves the lives of people affected by cancer.
