Somerset Heritage Centre and Timestream Out Stores, Taunton

Client:

St Modwen Developments Limited

Role:

Employer’s Agents, Quantity Surveyors, CDM Co-ordinators

Description:

This project consists of £5.7m two 2 storey buildings for use by Somerset County Council as an environmentally controlled archive storage facility. The Timestream building provides in total 6840m² of fl oor space with outstores of 4010m². The buildings are designed to store archive materials so the climatic control requirements are extremely important, therefore the primary store is a reinforced concrete enclosed structure with metal cladding and roofing.

The project commenced with the demolition of disused World War 2 buildings originally occupied by American troops.

Following demolition and site clearance infrastructure to serve the site was put in place. The Somerset Heritage Centre was one of several regeneration projects on the site which included further warehousing for a cash and carry and an animal feeds company.  Wakemans were employed on this project as Employer’s Agents, Quantity Surveyors and CDM Co-ordinators.
