National property and construction consultancy Wakemans is on site with the third stage of development at Quedgeley West Business Park near Gloucester, following the successful completion of Phases I and II.
Developer St. Modwen Properties PLC has appointed Wakemans as employer's agent, quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator on a new £102,000 sq ft warehouse for C M Downton Ltd, one the UK's largest privately-owned distribution and storage companies.
Contractor Barnwood Construction - which was also employed on Phase I of the scheme - started on site in April and is on schedule to complete all works in November.
"Works to date have included the demolition of old warehouse buildings and the diversion of a sewer, and since several trees are subject to preservation orders, they will be fenced off to protect them," says Wakemans director Dean Watson.
"Quedgeley West Business Park has attracted a good deal of interest, as it offers clear benefits to companies requiring quality warehouse accommodation in this part of the country."
Wakemans acted as employer's agent, quantity surveyor and CDM co-ordinator on Phase I - a £4m purpose-built 94,000 sq ft manufacturing and office facility for Taylor Woodrow subsidiary Prestoplan, which was completed in October 2006 and carried out the same roles on the Phase II development.
The 32 acre Quedgeley West Business Park is the redevelopment of the former RAF Quedgeley complex, which St. Modwen acquired from the Ministry of Defence in 1997. Once Downton's warehouse is complete, around eight acres remains in the final Phase IV development, with design and build opportunities available from 10,000 sq ft to 150,000 sq ft.
