News - Wakemans On Board with £4.5m Kingston Travelodge

Wakemans traditionally represents Travelodge on its new-build hotel schemes, but on this occassion the consultancy worked for the developer, part of the Longford Group of Companies, to redevelop and fit out an existing 12-floor office building to become a new £4.5m hotel in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Longford Group who owns the property converted part of it into a 102-room Travelodge plus Bar Café, with a car park and supermarket below.

Wakemans met the pre-contract requirements and acted as Employers Agent and Quantity Surveyor on all post-contract work.

“We were delighted to work with the Developer and it was especially interesting for me to be managing this project on behalf of Longford as their technical director Peter Johnson was formerly a Wakemans partner,” says Wakemans associate director Nigel Himpson.

“The development is located in a prime commercial area, so its fit out created a logistics challenge because the supermarket and the car park continued trading during the redevelopment.

Contractor Barnes Construction utilised a service deck to keep the surrounding roads clear for local traffic and to maintain the access road to the car park and deliveries to the foodstore.”
